The Karnak temple complex, universally known only as Karnak, describes a vast conglomeration of ruined temples, chapels, pylons and other buildings. This was ancient Egyptian Ipet-isut ("The Most Selected of Places"), the main place of worship of the Theban Triad with Amun as its head, in the monumental city of Thebes. The complex retrieves its current name from the nearby and partly surrounding modern village of El Karnak, some 2.5km north of Luxor. |
we
We will cycle to El Karnak, after will visit this temple complex, the Precint of Amun-Ra, and after we will walk to the unknown but beautifull Open Air Musseum. After our visit here, we will go to the Luxor Musseum, about 1km back in direction of Luxor.

Inaugurated in 1975, the museum is housed in a small, purpose-built building. The range of artifacts on display is far more restricted than the country's main collections in the museum in Cairo; this was, however, deliberate, since the museum prides itself on the quality of the pieces it has, the uncluttered way in which they are displayed, and the clear multilingual labelling used. |
